Jesus spent His life loving, healing, welcoming, and forgiving others. Our God was born into this world in a barn among the animals and dirt with people already out to kill him. He walked this earth sharing the good news of eternal life filled with pure love and joy and people still wanted Him gone.
26 And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus. 27 And there followed him a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting for him. 28 But turning to them Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ 30 Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’ 31 For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
32 Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. 33 And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”b And they cast lots to divide his garments. 35 And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!” 36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine 37 and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” 38 There was also an inscription over him,c “This is the King of the Jews.”
39 One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him,d saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
The Death of Jesus
44 It was now about the sixth hour,e and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last. -Luke 23: 26-46 ESV
Jesus wanted the very best for us, because He unconditionally loves us. Even after he was stripped of His clothing, beaten, whipped, mocked, pierced, and nailed to the cross He still showed us love. How amazing is that?! We will never be able to come close to loving like He did… However, we can show others where to find such pure and powerful love. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Jesus is seated at the right hand of God. He mediates for us when we come to face God. If you deny Him in this world, He will deny you to God. Because of Jesus’s love, He makes it possible for us to be with our Father in Heaven. If it weren’t for what Jesus did, we wouldn’t have the slightest chance of being with our Father. God saw that, and gave us a savior. Glory be to God, and thanks be to Christ.
So let us be reminded today of what Jesus went through for us and did for us. Let us be reminded us His unconditional love. Such love that cannot be produced… Such love that can only be felt. God loved us so incredibly much that He gave up His only son so we could be washed clean of our sins and live with Him in His home.
No matter what you do, or have done, or even will do, you are forgiven if you only ask. So don’t keep living in guilt and feeling ashamed of the things you have done. Jesus gave Himself up so we could be free from all of that. Live in His love. Walk in His light. Run towards the joy that love that is gifted to us. Take it joyfully and gratefully. Use it to praise and glorify our God and King. Open your hearts, minds, and souls to Him, and He will forever change your life.
“Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” -Romans 8:34 ESV
“But whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” -Mark 10:33
I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life
1“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.d From now on you do know him and have seen him.” -John 14:1-7
