We ask for so many things from God. We ask for health, love, money, jobs, strength, and protection. We ask for all of these things, with the hope that they will just magically fall in our lap. We hope that we do not have to wait long for these blessings, and not a lot of work is needed on our end. We pray for these things, and then go on our merry way in life waiting for them. Waiting for that job, waiting for that person, waiting for everything to fall into our hands. But we grow tired and restless of waiting, and become ever so frustrated as to why we are not being given what we asked for. So what’s the deal? Is He just telling you no? Or could it be that you are actually preventing His blessings?
Okay, let’s say that you have never run in your life and are wanting to run a 5K. You start praying to God for the strength and endurance to complete the 5K, but that’s it…So you go to the 5K and have to quit half a mile into it. You are completely frustrated that God didn’t give you what you asked for, and you don’t understand why you didn’t get it. I mean you prayed for it so you have to get it, right?
Well, we reap what we sow, and God will help us through. In other words we have to put in the work if we want the outcome we so desire. We have to work on ourselves, and we have to continue to grow our foundation in God. That perfect companion you have been praying for? Maybe He has that person ready, but He knows your soul still needs work before you can meet them. So He might want you to spend time humbling yourself, serving others, and making your heart full of His love. What about that dream job that you know in your bones is meant for you? He probably has that ready, but He knows you still have more learning to do before you can succeed in that role. So He might want you to spend time mastering your craft or to learn how to be a caring and strong leader.
We cannot expect to gain everything we want without putting in the work. We must continually work on ourselves, and grow into the soul that each of us were designed to become. It can be difficult to see that while our prayers are ready to be answered, we could be preventing them from being given.
We expect so much from Him, and do so little to grow ourselves. The things we want and pray for often requires different levels of ourselves. We prevent those blessings we so desperately want, because we don’t want to go through the growing pains. We don’t want to take them time and effort to grow ourselves, and we must move past that mindset. Growing is painful and uncomfortable…but so is staying in the same place. It’s time to realize that we must grow ourselves and level up to the same standard that are prayers are at. Work for it and believe that it will happen. Have an action behind your faith, and don’t prevent yourself from the blessings God has for you.
