2017 is over… I can’t help but look back at this whirlwind of a year. Being a recent graduate I can’t help but feel a bit down and anxious. Just as anyother recent graduates, my life has been quite structured around school and classes, and now that’s all gone. Now my years will revolve around the feeling of “I need to be doing something amazing with my life” or the thought of ” I don’t want to live a half full life.” Those are both pretty hefty weights to hold on ones shoulders….So in the midst of an anxiety ridden thought montage at 1am on Christmas Eve, a few things finally clicked with me that might be helpful for you too…
Just Say Yes. God’s Got This.He has your life in his hands, He is placing things in your heart that are magnificent and wonderful. All you need to do is say yes and be available to what He has in store. When God invites you on an adventure, say yes. Simple as that. Yes comes now. Figuring out comes later.
This past year my goal was to say yes more than I said no, and then to actually go through with whatever I said yes to! And boy did it make for the coolest year yet. I’ve gone on some crazy fun adventures, changed jobs, and made some new amazing friends along the way. Saying yes more has also brought me so much closer to God in a way that I didn’t know was possible. This year I saw the pure joy and love that comes from God. I’ve learned to not be afraid and to know that God’s got this whole life thing mastered. The more and more I’ve said yes, the more I’ve seen God’s joy and love unfold. His beautiful love is in every good thing, and when we say no to certain opportunities, we lose the chance at seeing His beautiful works. SO! Just. Say. Yes.
Be Patient & Trust Him. We are told all the time to just be patient and trust, but it’s hard to trust something when you can’t see the outcome, right? It’s so difficult to just sit and wait for the time to arise. I don’t know about you, but whenever I try to do something on my time it never seems to go well…like ever. Which is probably a great thing because most of the time I have no idea what I’m doing!
The cool thing is that when we wait on God’s timing everything seems to work out perfectly. Weirdly perfectly to where you know God is behind it all. God has placed some amazing talents in our hearts for us to use, but He needs us to be patient and trust His timing on when those talents are to be used.
Be openminded. We most often think of the bigger picture when going after our dreams, the feeling we’ll get when we achieve those dreams, and even how things might go wrong. But we rarely (maybe never) think about being openminded about plans. We get so fixated on everything having to go a certain way that if one thing changes it means the entire dream is lost. (Ok that might be an exaggeration, but you get what I mean.)
But being openminded about your life’s plan lets God’s love, peace, mercy, and goodness flood into you in such cool ways. It lets people see His glory and gives us the chance to experience life in the most wide open way possible. For example, picture your life’s plan as a sidewalk. You try tirelessly to keep it clear of dirt, no weeds, and no cracks. But through time you grow weary and start letting nature take its course. The sidewalk begins to crack and flowers start to pop up, there are dips and raises from nearby tree roots, and it has a little bit of dirt on it now. You stare at it and realize that it is way more beautiful than it was before. Letting God take control of your life’s plan sooner will save you os much time and energy. Time that could be spent going on adventures, creating something spectacular, or spending time with loved ones. Don’t worry if it’s not going exactly to plan, because God’s got this. He has your back. Just keep your mind open to what He is saying.
Living a half full life is something that many of us settle for, but the good news is that you don’t have to keep living a half full life. It is so true that what you get out of life is what you put into it, and what you believe about life is what will come true. So why not start believing that life is an amazing, wonderful, colorful, crazy adventure full of God’s goodness and love?! So why not live a full life?
