Jesus tells us all the time to “take up our cross and follow me” but so many of us are too fearful to do so. We’ve only ever known ourselves, yet he asks us to deny ourselves and all that we know… Kinda scares you a bit, right? Well, that is exactly what needs to happen when it comes to going after our callings in this life.
When it comes to our life’s calling, we often freeze up and reject it. When we don’t feel ready or prepared and it is presented to us, we run away from it. Which is weird right? I mean it’s the reason we were made, yet our bodies freeze with fear and run away. But often the reason we get too scared to take that jump is because we know that once we are off of the ledge, we have no control. Our soul is now being guided on the path it was meant for, and our fleshly ways are being left behind. That feeling of our own control over our lives might feel more safe, but it is never fulfilling to the soul… So while we may hover a foot over the ledge every so often to feel a sense of rush and fulfillment, we never actually jump and experience what our soul was made to do.
So many people never go fully after their life’s calling because they either think that it’s too small of a dream or too big of one. They think they were made for something else. That the passion of working on cars is nothing more than a passionate hobby so they never take it anywhere. Or maybe it’s an artist who thinks they aren’t gifted enough. Or a writer who thinks their writings can’t make a difference in the world. All of these are thoughts we have because we just don’t believe that we are special enough to be used by God or that we can truly make an impact. So we never take that jump…Which in all honestly must be so frustrating to God!
All I can imagine is God looking down seeing us go back and forth on this ledge and decided wether or not to take the leap of faith. I can see Him excitedly cheering us on saying, “Yes! Yes!! Jump!! You can’t even fathom the amazing path I have planned for you! It’s going to make your dreams look like tiny pebbles!! Oh please jump! Please jump. Please just trust me. I just need you to trust me. I just need you to jump.”
All God wants us to in this life is to trust him. Don’t back away from your soul’s purpose. Don’t run from you gifts and passions. Trust God. Just Jump.
